There are many buses in London, used for many purposes. There are the ones that run along the main commuter routes to help the residents get to work. Then there are the ones which run along the tourist routes to help people sight see more easily. Then there are the open top buses which do tours of the city. If you are sight seeing in London then make sure that you take a ride of one of the traditional big red London buses. These are well worth a ride on and they are not too expensive. You can just go a few stops if you like, just to experience what it is like and to have some fun. They have a platform at the back of the bus and many have a conductor who will sell you a ticket. Much different to the normal buses where you get on at the front and pay the driver. Make sure you go up on the top deck too as you will get a much better view from there.

If you have organised car hire form Gatwick, then you can still drive to the city and take a bus trip. It is probably a more relaxing way to see the sights and will give you a break from driving. The car will certainly be useful when you want to travel more significant distances and when you want to get about more quickly, rather than at the slow pace of a bus, which is forced to drive through the busiest roads.

Visiting the UK

If you are coming in to the UK on holiday then you may think that you will be able to do a lot. Despite the fact the country is relatively small, compared to many others, you will find that it is still far too big to be able to explore on one trip. If you want to travel outside on London then it is a good idea to organise a hire car as it will make your travel much easier. Despite having a good train network as well as buses, the transport is not that reliable or comfortable.

When thinking about where to visit the first decision is whether you want to see cities, villages or countryside. If you want to see the city then staying in London is the best thing to do, there is plenty to offer with a huge amount of museums, art galleries and other attractions as well as historical buildings, tours, the river, parks and gardens. If you want some countryside then Dartmoor or the lake District could be your taste or if you want to travel even further north then maybe the Lochs in Scotland might be your thing. If you want villages then the Cotswolds are probably the place to go. You will see chocolate box style cottages with country gardens and beautiful countryside surrounding them. These are a big tourist draw so there is plenty of gift shops, tea rooms and country pubs. Wherever you choose, your hire car will help you get there easily.
